In part one of our contest, we went to our friends & family / neighbors / blog readers and asked them to suggest a unique, catchy name for our new website and to use when opening up shop in the various on-line store fronts, such as etsy, art fire, etc.
Now, in Part Two, it’s up to you to vote. Please choose your 1st and 2nd favorite names for us to use from those listed below. Then post your choices in a comment at the end of this post. Voting begins May 20th (I opened up the vote a little early due to no new submissions in the past couple days) and ends May 24th at midnight.

In case of a tie, Allie and I will choose our favorite from those names involved in the tie. Keep in mind when voting that Allie (my son’s 18 yr old girlfriend) is a great artist using all mediums. I like to make art out of junk. So, we are combining those talents to create interesting pieces of art. So, try to vote for the name (in your opinion) that most matches the venture.
The person who submitted the winning name will receive one of our handmade creations (pictured below), valued at $24.95. The winner will be contacted and the winning name submission announced after I return home June 1st from an unexpected trip out of state.
** Please note that we have the contest posted on several websites for voting, so counting votes here will not give you an accurate count of the winner **
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to cast your vote!
If you pay any attention to my posts, you will notice that by now I should be almost done with level 2 of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. But, I have had to alter my plan a bit. Last Friday (L2D2), my husband and I ran outside first thing in the morning to mow the lawn before the rain hit again. He did the majority of the yard with the riding mower while I used the push mower to do inside our doggie’s areas and went around the trees. While he finished up, I came inside to do the Shred. Big! Mistake! I made it 2/3 of the way through and almost passed out. Overheated again! (Note to self – Do not mow prior to doing the Shred!!) And as the day progressed, my knees were killing me! Nothing a little ibuprofen didn’t help. But, I am not one to have knee troubles.
I took Saturday off from any kind of exercise to rest.
Sunday, I walked around one of the local elementary schools and then spent a while goofing off on the playground with my 11 year old son and A, my other son’s 18 yr old girlfriend. We all had a great time, got some fun exercise and vowed to go back again soon!
So, my change of exercise plans looks something like this -
Shred on Monday / Wednesday / Friday
Exercise bike and abs on Tuesday / Thursday
Saturday or Sunday completely off and the other weekend day I will go for a hike, walk, etc with my family.
This may not be the way the plan was designed but taking the advice from a kind person who answered one of my questions – there are no rules that say how you “have” to do it.
Now I pose another question … Do you think a mini trampoline used on the cardio parts to ease the pounding on the knee joints would be an acceptable alternative? It could not be used for the obvious things like the jumping jacks, skaters, etc. But, things like jump rope and high knees could be done on it. What is your opinion?
So, I haven’t posted in a couple days about my experience with Jillian Michael’s 30 day Shred. It just seemed redundant to say, I shredded, I suffered, I’m done for the day!
But, today, I did level 2 day 1 of the 30 day shred. (I stayed on level 1 longer than 10 days just to get better at the exercises to hopefully make level 2 a little less painful. Well, I was wrong!
Ok, my major dysfunction was my shoes and not Jillian. Everytime I would plank, my shoe would slip off. Then, I found myself struggling to get my shoes on or out of my way. If my shoe was off, my socks slid. If my shoe was on, it would just come back off again. So, tomorrow, I will wear my lace up tennis shoes instead of my slip on, comfy exercise shoes.
Take a sneak peek for yourself if you want to see what I am talking about …
The exercise I struggled with the most was the chair squats with the V fly. I can chair squat but by the end of the second set, I thought my arms were going to fall off from the V fly. OH MY GOSH were they tough! I actually could barely get my arms up the height of my chest by the end of them all, neverless the height of my eyes!!
But, I am motivated! Who wouldn’t be after watching the great results from the Biggest Loser Season Finale last night!?!
Since it is day 10 of level 1 of the 30 day Shred, I decided to post some of my stats.
I have lost 1 pound (6 pounds if you count the 5 pounds I went up when I started the Shred) and have lost a total of 3 inches ( -1/2 off my bicep, -1 from my chest, -1 from my waist and -1/2 from my thighs). When comparing my before and after photo, I notice great results from the love handles on my back! But, nothing really more than that to brag about.
Well, while not great progress, keep in mind that I have not really changed anything about my diet except less sugar in my tea and actually drinking plain water during my day.
I did manage to ride my ecercise bike a couple days this week. Ok, so not the 3 times that I planned but I did do some!
I am continuing on level one for 4 more days so that my son’s girlfriend can finish out her 10 days and so that I can work on working out at the more advanced level and feel more ready for level 2. With moving to level 2, I plan to get back on my 1200 to 1400 calorie diet so that I can reap all the benefits possible from the remaining workouts! Stay tuned for the results from level 2 and level 3. I expect only great things to come!
My son and his girlfriend have joined me in exercising to Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. But, my son refused to workout with me again last night. This is how it went …
Son - I was taught in weight lifting not to use weights on the same muscle groups everyday
Me - I know, I was always told that, too. But, I had also heard somewhere that it was ok to do the 30 day shred everyday because you are only using small weights.
Son – That’s a bunch of BS. If your muscles have pain … and mine have pain, (pointing to the flabby area we get in front of our armpits, cannot think of what the correct name for that area is?) So my muscles have torn and today they are repairing themselves.
Me – Well, you can exercise without the weights today.
Son – Yes, I guess I could do that.
As you can see, I put “somewhere” in italics. That’s because I have no idea where I read or heard that from. Does Jillian say it on the video? Did I read it in a blog? Hmm!?! So, I again ask for input. You do not have to be a medical expert. I am just curious what you think, how you are doing the Shred, etc?
As for my thoughts on advancing to level 2 or staying on level 1 a while … after viewing the video as suggested, I am opting to stay on level 1 a few more days. I can feel myself getting better at each and every exercise and taking fewer breaks. But, I still struggle on some and I am still doing girly push ups. These next few days I am going to really push myself to move forward to better prepare myself for level 2.
Totally off the subject but definitely in my thoughts today. Has anyone seen “An American Crime?” I had never heard of Sylvia Liken or Gertrude. My son’s girlfriend bought the movie and we watched it last night. When it was over, I was in shock over her mistreatment by so many and how the circumstances were overlooked by people both young and old. Then I have to remind myself of what time period it was and how things were different then. The movie left me wanting to know the real story, so I spent much time last night scouring internet articles. I saw that there were other movies made like “The Girl Next Door.” And several books based off of Sylvia’s story. Have you seen them or read them and would you recommend them?
With each passing day of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred, I feel stronger & leaner! But, I am still not able to do all the exercises at the advanced level for the entire workout. If I advance the workout, will I struggle with the exercises in level 2?
So, I have a question for you experienced Shredders …
Do I advance to level 2 workout on day 11 despite feeling as if I have not perfected level 1 or do I stay on level 1 a few days extra?
My son’s longtime girlfriend and I have decided to join together in a new adventure! That’s where you come in!
We would like our reader’s & friends to suggest a name for our little venture. I know, you need more details, right?
Allie is an wonderful artist. She works with all mediums. Here is just one example of her work.
My name is Gina. I really enjoy repurposing junk into art. But, I also create a wide variety of other things. You can see examples of my work throughout my blog postings – Christmas ornaments, silverware windchimes, etc.
Together, we created this piece, which we will be giving to one very creative, helpful reader!

And it wasn’t because I didn’t want to do it! Our electric went out all day and all night, just coming on again at 7 am this morning! I will get back on track again today without missing a beat and do my 30 minutes on the exercise bike, too.
On a different note, my son’s girlfriend is an awesome artist of all mediums and I like to make junk into art. So, we have decided to join ventures. Stay tuned for our next post to name our store. If your name is chosen, you will win a prize! Who doesn’t like free “stuff,” right.?
Due to the rising cost of laundry detergent, I have recently been on a quest to find one I could make for cheaper. After much research, I have found one that I love!
2 parts Borax, 2 parts Washing soda & 1 part grated felds naptha soap.
The only store that I found all the ingredients at was Kroger. But, they were still a great buy!
I love the scent – light and lemony! Our clothes are clean! It is easy to make! And, it does save me money!
Now, does anyone have a good fabric softener recipe?
