Eating out on the HCG diet
March 31, 2008 by ginacarruba
Since starting the hcg diet and Dr. Simeon’s protocol, I have eaten all of my meals at home. However, today I was out of town at lunch time and had to decide where I could get the best meal to fit into my plan. I would have loved to have Olive Garden! Pasta, salad and breadsticks, yum! But, we chose Mimi’s Cafe. It is a cajun / blues type restaurant. I ordered the blackened grilled chicken, salad and fruit wedges. It also came with a muffin which smelled heavenly! I managed to resist the urge and placed it in a box to go. I ate 1/2 the chicken breast (which seemed to be about the size I normally have) a little over half of the salad and the fruit wedges (orange, cantaloupe and honeydew melon). And even though melon is not allowed on the diet plan, I ate them all because they were very small. Hindsite, I would have asked to have all orange wedges. Calorie King states calorie content of a full meal is 460 calories. I overestimated my portions with my daily tracking on fitday.com to 249 calories. I guess tomorrow morning’s weigh in will be the deciding factor on how well I did.
Below is a photo of the meal from the cafe’s site.
Update on progress
Round 1 Phase 2 VLCD 9
Weight loss to date -16 pounds
Total inches lost -2 3/4 with 1/4 from the waist, 1 3/4 from the hips and 3/4 from my calf. All other measurements remained the same.
I am still impressed with the fact that I am satisfied with the small portions of food. I love the fact that healthy food is tasting great again. And, while I would be a liar if I said I did not have any cravings, I am filled with a sense of willpower! I can do this!

One time I was stuck in an airport while on P2 with none of my prepared food. So, I ordered a 1/4 lb. Wendy’s hamburger with extra lettuce, no mustard, no mayo, no pickle or ketchup. I took it into the lady’s rm. threw the bread away and when no one was around, I rinsed the burger off in hot water to rid it of the surface fat. I tore up the lettuce, cut up the tomato, and the washed burger and made a little salad in a little styrofome box I had. I happened to have my own homemade dressing and VOILA, a (nearly) perfect P2 meal. I was pretty proud of my ingenuity, but then again I get creative when my blood sugar is down and my head starts pounding.
Big Mistake!
